Wow, all of the previous reviews are right on the money. And what a lot of money for a crappy pad. I fall a lot, and had the Pro Design knee pads before, which are huge a bulky but the best protection ever. I got a serious bruise the first time I fell on the Atoms, and after two weeks the soft material around the cap is tearing. I skate on concrete, so I DO NOT recommend them for outdoor skating. Only for looking pretty at open skate!

These are not what they are cracked up to be. They are falling apart after me owning them for less than three weeks and having 10 or less falls on them. They do not give adequate protection for the knee either. DO NOT BUY THESE.
The pluses are that they are comfortable (because there is barely anything there) and they do not fall down because of that strap of sticky stuff on the inside- which is something I wish all pads had. In the end though, it's not worth it.
BUY ANY OTHER KNEE PAD AND YOU'LL HAVE A BETTER ONE THAN THIS ONE.
On the other hand, I like the elbow pads- they have enough padding. They are also falling apart a little (stretching at the "breathing holes" in the material) but I think they will hold up.

Not for derby but ok for skating outside of practice

I have tried these and they are definetly not for derby but for skating for fun or at an open skate that would be fine
they do not behave like derby pads do so be beware that if you fall not to expect the same results
kevlar is stronger than most materials but is not slick so it doesn't slide
if you ahve problems with your knees you may want to put a gasket under neath these

DO NOY BUY THESE FOR DERBY

A team mate of mine bought them after being lured in by the commercials at the WFTDA playoffs. The protective cap is built in and seems very flimsy, not very hard at all. Also, there doesn't appear to be any padding between the protective cap and your knee caps, just a thin layer of padded fabric. On her first fall, she hurt her knee... they do not offer any shock absorption. We think she is just bruised & hopefully not worse.
READ THE DISCLAIMER:
This product is currently being evaluated by skaters for it's viability for use in derby skating. Many people have said that they do not feel this pad offers any protection during a fall. The caps are soft and flexible and covered in material and therefore do not slide during a fall like other pads, possibly causing you to fall forward. Please be aware of this and use caution when wearing these pads. Some have said that while these are very comfortable pads and offer great mobility, the are only for use by expert skaters who don't ever fall on their knees.

So one of my teammates bought these, wore them once, told me she hated them, and offered to sell them to me. So I threw them on at open skate to try them out and went out to do a knee drop..first off, the "caps" on these are coated with kevlar I guess? It's this kinda tacky material that caused me to completely eat it as soon as it touched the floor. No slide at all. And i say "caps" because these offer little to no protection when you fall on them. After doing another controlled knee fall, it felt like falling on my knees wearing nothing but gaskets. I was actually in pain afterwards and had to stop skating. I'm sure these do wonders for supporting all those ligaments and stuff, and they are a really slim profile which is awesome..but as far as actually protecting your knees when you fall on them (which, y'know, is kinda what I look for in knee pads..), these fail alot.
